AVID

AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness system that is designed to increase school-wide learning and performance. The program targets students in the academic middle B, C and even D students - who have the desire to go to college and hew willingness to work hard.  AVID places academically average students in advanced classes and provided then with an elective class that prepares them to succeed in rigorous curricula, enter mainstream activities in school, and increase their opportunities to enroll in four-year colleges.

Compton High School AVID program aims to:

  1. Close the achievement and academic gap by preparing AVID students for college readiness.
  2. Increase student participation in the program.
  3. Utilize AVID strategies school-wide.
  4. Support students with college applications and scholarships.
